Introduction

We are pleased to release the new BAR (Best Available Rate) Pricing or Formula Pricing on the Channel Manager.

Consider a scenario where a hotel has

  • 3 Room Types (Standard, Executive, Deluxe)
  • 3 Rate Plans (Room Only, With Breakfast, With Lunch)
  • 3 Occupancies (Single, Double, Triple)

Having the above creates 27 different combinations for the hotelier. Every time the hotelier wishes to change the price, they need to update it for each of these 27 combinations.

BAR pricing addresses this issue. With BAR price, hotelier can define modifiers for room types, rate plans and occupancies. And whenever they need to update the price, they will have to update it only for one combination and the system automatically updates the other prices.

Pre-requisites

  1. Remove all room dependencies - Why? Setting a BAR formula creates a logical hierarchy of room types and rate plans. Keeping room depencies will create dual hierarchy.

Setup

We’ve compiled some notes in activating and using this feature.

Clicking on BAR Pricing will take you to the BAR Pricing Page

Clicking on BAR Pricing will take you to the BAR Pricing Page

Clicking Create BAR, will take you to the page where you can set the modifiers. Set up the modifiers for Room Type, Rate Plan, Occupancy and Extras.

Preview section will allow you to preview example rates. No prices will be updated, it is just for view.

You can deactivate, delete, activate, edit or preview the BAR price after saving it

After creating the the BAR, a new menu will appear on the Inventory & Pricing page called “Update BAR”

Clicking on “Update BAR” opens up a pop-up where you need to update the price of one combination and all other prices are updated based on the modifiers set in the BAR Pricing setup.

What happens if I ?

Set a negative value and the final price is negative?

On updating the bar price in “Inventory and Pricing” page, alert message will be shown like “Some combinations have negative price. Please change the modifiers or increase the base price.”

Add a new Room Type or Rate Plan after I have created BAR price formula?

On updating the bar price in “Inventory and Pricing” page, alert message will be shown like “Seems new Room Type / Rateplan / Room Occupancy has been added, but the formula is not defined for the same.”

Deactivate the BAR Price?

Update BAR Price link on Inventory & Pricing page will be visible but not clickable. Also note that, on deactivation, the option of adding dependencies will be available again.

Don’t like BAR pricing feature and want to delete it?

You can delete the the BAR rate at any point and current prices will not be affected. Note that room & rate plan dependencies will be needed to be added again, if any.

Like BAR feature or have any feedback?

Look forward to hearing from you. We’re all ears.
